Epochs is a series of intermedia couture sculptures accumulating my journey through dress and the effect garments and textiles have had on my life. From this process, I have been able to reckon with my tumultuous relationship with personal style and how aspects of my identity, including mental health, gender, and sexuality, have shaped – and been shaped by – the clothes I choose to wear. Through sewing, collaging, painting, and careful material selection, these representations of my experience act as souvenirs from my self-exploration and hopefully allow the viewer to consider the characterization and origins of their own dress and self-expression. Epochs holds the weight of my developments and experiments, from my first fascination with fabric to the present day. They connect me with my roots, the tradition of dress that began with my mother, and increase the emotional intelligence and authenticity of my style and artmaking in the future.
